BUILDING TECHNOLOGY 1
The objective of this module is to develop analytical and critical research of principles, practices and details of construction technology in the process of documentation.
PROJECT 1: Design Modification & Documentation
The propose of this project is for the students to expose their knowledge which they have gained in Building Materials, Building Construction 1 and 2 as well as Building Structures.students here are required to utilize a portion of their previous semester design studio project and apply some modifications to the construction systems of the original design, to include different, more complex and recent building technology, building materials, to replace with different, more complex or recent building technology.Finally, a complete documentation including a report and a set of working drawings of the modified design shall be produced.
PROJECT 2: INDUSTRIALISED BUILDING SYSTEM
This is a group project which predominantly relates to the topics of Industrialised Building System (IBS) as well as the materials’ embodied energy. In the first part, each group is required to conduct a case study of a building which was constructed using IBS to understand the components better (case study: Taylor's University Collage Lakeside). In the second part, the group has to construct a model of a 3-storey apartment building to imitate the actual IBS construction process and to record all the process in a report.
The objective of this project:
-To develop students’ understanding in different types of IBS construction method.
-To demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of IBS construction process through model making.
-To develop students’ understanding in matters related to energy efficiency and ecological impact.
